St Mirren yesterday denied that they had received any official contact from Motherwell regarding goalkeeper Ludovic Roy and defender Barry McLaughlin. Reports last week suggested that BD was preparing a £100,000 bid for the duo.
According to this week's Wishaw Times, Billy Davies is keen to tie up Said Chiba and James Okoli on long term deals now.
Andy Goram made his debut for Manchester United in this afternoon's game against Coventry at Old Trafford. However, after 66 mins and with the score at 2-2, Goram was substituted and replaced by Raimond van der Gow. United went on to win 4-2.
In today's Evening Times, Scott Leitch praises the
youngsters who have been drafted into the side recently, and also talks about
being awarded the captaincy at Fir Park:
"With so many old hands leaving, the manager has to give
the young players a chance to show what they can do. The lads who have
come in during the past couple of weeks have done really well. But they
are going to need coaxed and coached every step of the way. That's where
the likes of myself come in. Billy Davies has done a great job with the
kids off the field, but on the pitch it's up to the old hands like myself to
guide the boys through the 90 mins. I feel I've enough clubs and games
behind me to do that job.
"Even more so now the manager has made me captain. It's a case of local boy made good as far as I am concerned. I was born and bred in Motherwell. It took me a long time to get around to playing for my home town team.
"Five years in English First Division football with Swindon taught me so much. Particularly playing alongside guys like Mark Walters and Jimmy Quinn. I worked with some good coaches and managers too. But none of them put in as much effort or worked as hard as Billy Davies does at Fir Park. I know this might sound like crawling but it's not. Billy and I were players together in my early days at Dunfermline. Even then, his knowledge of the game and enthusiasm were outstanding. He has a hard job now because of all the changes and financial restrictions. But if anyone can make it work, he can.
"We are lucky enough to still have the likes of Greg Strong, with his experience of English football with Bolton, and Kevin Twaddle has seen action with St Johnstone, Raith Rovers and Morton. They will be invaluable as well. And I am sure between now and the new season the boss will have added a few more. He has already brought in Said Chiba and James Okoli, although I don't know if they are permanent. We've lost Andy Goram, Steven McMillan, Ged Brannan, John Spencer and Benito Kemble, and now I think Derek Townsley is going as well. Now it's time for the young legs."
