I wasn't at East End Park yesterday, as instead I was down at Sunderland to watch their match against Chelsea.  It was a good game with a great atmosphere, and it was a pleasant change to see some PROPER football for a change, rather than some of the matches that pass for entertainment in the SPL.

Anyway, while I was down there Motherwell were being humped 3-0 by Dunfermline, and had Tony Vaughan sent-off in the process.  That's now TEN red cards we've accumulated so far this season.  Ricky's report of the game is available here.

Speaking after the match, Terry Butcher refused to be downbeat, saying:
"It just wasn't to be our day, but things are still within our own hands.  It was frustrating to hand them such an easy goal for the opener, because they are a good side that can pass the ball around.  We have no complaints about the red card, the referee made the right decision.  We could have had the score at 1-1, but then they broke up the park and we lost one of our players. So we were then faced with 1-0 and 10 men and it just shows that things were not going to go for us."

TB was pleased with the decision to move the Celtic game from April 16 until May 7, as now he has a full seven days to concentrate on the cup semi-final at Hampden:
"It would have been nice to have played the game and had another game behind us.  But it means we have a free week in the run up to the semi-final so that is good from our point of view.  It's a very important game for the club and it means that we can focus more on that."

According to today's Sunday Herald, the following players are out of contract at the end of the season:

  • Dirk Lehmann

  • Steven Craig

  • Stevie Woods

  • Francois Dubourdeau

  • Dougie Ramsay

  • Kevin McDonald

  • David Cowan

  • David Clarke

Its been reported that Karl Ready has packed in playing for the mighty Aldershot Town this season, and is hanging for a compensation payment from Motherwell!
