Speaking in today's local press, Billy Davies says he is hoping that
Stuart Elliott's injury time equaliser against Killie can be the spark
that we need to get our season going. He said:
"It is extremely difficult to play against 10 men as Kilmarnock
found out last season when we beat them 2-0 at Rugby Park after having a
player dismissed. Overall it was good to get a late goal, but, in
the second-half especially, what disappointed me was we decided to play
straight down the middle instead of using the wings. However, the
fact we scored two goals, and one or two of our new players are beginning
to adjust to the pace, did please me."
BD insists that Saturday's trip to face Aberdeen is not a make or break
game:
"People will say we are down the bottom with Aberdeen, but when
you look at the table there are another five or six teams all separated by
just a couple of points, so to be talking about this game as being a huge
one for us so early on in the season is just nonsense.
"I am very happy with all the new players, but you have to give
them time to get to know each other, as well as the different teams which
play in the league. We are still looking to bring one or two new
players in for certain positions and that is something we will be working
on over the next couple of weeks. Like I said before, it is still
very early in the season and the players will keep working away in getting
to know the system at Motherwell."
Davies is expected to have a full squad to choose from for the Aberdeen
match, although Eddie Forrest could replace Karl Ready after impressing
when he came on as sub against Kilmarnock.
