Oh dear. We we've just been gubbed by one of the worst teams in the
league. I didn't make it to Pittodrie for this afternoon's game, but
by the sound of things I'm very glad I wasn't there as we were humped
4-2. Aberdeen took the lead after 20 mins when a Ben Thornley
shot was deflected into his own net by Scott Leitch. However, we hit
back shortly afterwards when Karl Ready headed home from an Andy Dow
corner, and then we took the lead when a well worked free-kick saw Dow
chip the ball over the wall and into the path of David Kelly, who volleyed
past David Preece in the Dons' goal. Sadly, in true Motherwell
fashion as we gifted the home side an equaliser almost immediately
afterwards, when Ready failed to cut-out a simple cross ball and allowed
Robbie Winters in to score. From listening to Radio Scotland, it
sounds as though Aberdeen more or less dominated the second half, and
further goals from Mackie and Zerouali saw them rum out comfortable
4-2 winners. Having spoken to Ricky who, of course, was at the
match, he informs me that the referee did us no favours whatsoever.
However, I don't really think we can use this as an excuse when a team as
poor as Aberdeen can put four goals past us when they previously hadn't
hit the back of the net all season. To make matters worse, we had
Greg Strong and Kevin Twaddle stretchered off with serious looking
injuries. Next week's game against Livingston now takes on ever
greater significance, and even this early in the season a defeat against
the SPL newcomers would surely put BD under serious pressure.
