This afternoon's game against Livingston ended
goalless, and although this was our third successive home draw it was a
big improvement over recent performances. BD finally made a few
changes to his team selection, with Martinez (hurrah!), Elliott and
Twaddle dropping to the bench to make way for Lasley, Adams and McFadden
respectively. Eddie Forrest replaced the injured Greg Strong at
centre-half.
We started the game in 4-4-2 formation, but it soon became apparent
that Livvy were over-running us in midfield. To his credit, BD
noticed this and after 20 mins we switched to 3-5-2, although his decision
to sacrifice Stevie Hammel to make way for Stuart Pearson was not well
received by the home fans. The tactical switch certainly was
effective, as we gave as good as we got in midfield throughout the rest of
the match.
Chances were few and far between in the first half, with McFadden (I
think) coming closest for us when he drove just wide following a goalmouth
scramble. The introduction of Pearson was a breath of fresh air
compared to the performances served up by the likes of Martinez recently,
and he had several impressive runs which sadly led to no end
product. The visitors had their moments too, although Mark Brown was
seldom troubled.
The second 45 mins followed a similar pattern, although David Kelly had
the best chance of the match when he was unlucky to see his header come
back off the post. We lost our shape somewhat when Leitch went off
injured in 67 mins, and as a result Livvy came into the game more and
forced several good saves out of Mark Brown. However, the game petered out
and a point apiece was probably about right.
Although we remain second from bottom in the league table, at least
there were a few positives to take from this game, none more so than a
much improved display from the much maligned defence which looked
reasonably solid throughout. Could it be that the new players are
finally starting to gel...?
