Couldn't  make yesterday's game against Dundee United (I was at a stag do in Newcastle!), but it sounds like I didn't miss much as the match finished 0-0.  From watching the highlights on TV, it appears as though we had the better of the first half without seriously threatening United's goal, while the visitors were the better side in the second 45 mins and hit the woodwork a couple of times.  We also had a reasonable penalty claim turned down, but the main incident of note appears to have been a 16-man brawl late in the first half following a late tackle by Neil Tarrant on United's Jamie McCunnie.  It all seemed a bit like handbags to me, but today's papers report that the SPL could take further action.  Tarrant was booked for the initial challange, and Billy Davies played down the incident by saying:
"There were that many bodies that you couldn't see what was going on. There were bodies all over the place.  When its early season and every player is fighting for his place in the starting line-up, you are going to get moments like this."

Tarrant himself added:
"It was a 50-50 ball and I was going for it flat out.  He came worse off but that's football. I wasn't sure what happened afterwards but it looked just like handbags to me."

On the subject of Neil Tarrant, today's papers report that the striker is keen to join Motherwell permanently at the end of his three-month loan deal from Aston Villa.

Your Chance to Help the Club's Youth Scheme

The club will shortly be running a raffle for His & Her Renault Clios, with a 2nd prize of a Panasonic widescreen TV with DVD & Video and a 3rd prize of a pair of season tickets for this season.  The draw will be held on 31 October.  Tickets costing £1 each are already on sale, and all the proceeds are in aid of the Youth Development Fund.

Season ticket holders will be sent a letter shortly asking them to sell a few books (5 tickets per book) to friends, family and workmates.

So make sure you buy a ticket, as ALL proceeds go to Youth Development Fund.  You know it makes sense.

Scholesy!

Many thanks to K24io@aol.com who sent in this charming photo of Derek Townsley in a typically elegant midfield pose.  I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to September 8th already...
