Update: 6.45pm
Speaking at today's press conference, BD gave an update on the injury
situation:
"Leitchy managed to get through 60 minutes quite
well so its great to have him back. Derek Adams is just about ready after
a little hamstring injury picked up last week in training. Stuart Elliott
has got a little ankle problem and that was why he didn’t play 90
minutes on Saturday however that is slowly getting better. Neil Tarrant is
getting better after his “50-50” challenge against Dundee United which
ended in a little minor fracas.
"It’s pleasing to get nearly a full squad back
fit again. Losing Tarrant and Leitch in the second half against Dundee
United affected us badly. We missed Tarrant’s presence and Scott
Leitch’s leadership qualities. At this time last year we were missing a
lot of players so I have been much happier with this start even although
we only have one point. Our first half performances have been first class
we just have to let the players know that the game lasts 95 minutes and
they have to be up for it throughout. We have highlighted this in training
this week."
When asked about Motherwell's poor start to the season,
BD replied:
"We will be happier when we get a win under
our belts but I am happy to be off the mark as other teams haven’t even
got one point yet. I am quite satisfied with our play so far and I am not
over concerned as yet. Quite obviously there has been no lack of
commitment. The players are giving everything, the spirit is excellent and
I like what I see on the training ground and in the dressing room. All
they need now is that first win and that will build the confidence of this
newly assembled group."
Derek Adams was among the players present at the press
conference, and he said:
"With one loss and one draw you would think
we would be very disappointed but in actual fact it's early days and we
played very well in parts of both of those games. The first halves of both
games were very positive and I think the second half against Dunfermline
was a bit of a freak result. We have learned our lesson and managed to
keep a clean sheet last week against Dundee United. Its always positive to
keep a clean sheet if you lose 5 goals the week before.
"The fact that we all stick together and
they are a great bunch of lads in the dressing room comes as no surprise
if you saw us training together.
"I myself look to some of the experienced
lads and Ned Kelly in particular to learn from. Ned has done it at the
very top and you only have to look at his ability, durability and his
personality around the place to know there is a lot to be learned from
him.
"We still don’t think about where we
finish up at the end of the season and it would be great to do as well as
Sunday’s opponents Kilmarnock. However, as they say, one game at a time
and if we are lucky we might end up in Europe like Kilmarnock tonight.
Sunday will be a difficult tie and it would be good to get our first win
and I’m not looking any further than that”
