Ricky's report of the Hibs
game is now available.
Terry Butcher's post-match comments were as follows:
"We probably deserved something from the game, both teams probably just about the same. Their keeper has made two wonderful saves at the end when we threw everything at them.
"This time last year we had played two games and lost them both without scoring a goal, already we are up on last season having scored a goal today.
"I'm bitterly disappointed as we put a lot into the game and we conceded two sloppy goals from our point of view, even thought it was a wonderful piece of opportunism for the winner, it came from when we had possession on the half way line. The game was littered with mistakes which made it a thrilling match as both sides gave the ball away with regularity and it was a very open game. I hope and pray that all our games aren’t like that as it wouldn’t do my heart any good at all.
"We know we can play better and we know we have to do better, last year when we had those two matches we then went on a very good run after that and we have to try and do that now. They really gave their all and didn’t convert our chances when we had good opportunities."
On the penalty incident, he added:
"It’ll be interesting to see, although its too late now, is the ball in play or does he blow his whistle before the incident. If the kick has been taken then surely it is a penalty, I don’t know, he didn’t give it and I don’t blame the referee for us losing the
match."
On the decision to leave David Clarkson out , TB added:
"I left David out today as I felt he hadn’t had a good week this week and the game last week possibly just catching up with him a little bit. I thought he might hit the wall a little bit earlier than this last year but he persevered and played very well towards the end of the season. He is only 18 and he still has a long way to go and sometimes it’s good for him to have a little bit of a rest. He came on after 30 minutes and was sharp and bright
again."
