Ricky informs me that the trialist who turned out for the Under-21s last night was in fact Dutch Striker Guillermo Graaven.  Ricky has very kindly supplied the following details on him...

George Burley snapped up the talented Guillermo Graaven on a free transfer from Ajax. Graaven has made regular appearances for his country at youth level and he is held in high regard in Holland as well as at Ipswich. The tall, quick centre forward is very direct in his play and he has the confidence and hunger needed to build a successful career.

Graaven arrived from Ajax at the same time as his good friend Nabil Abidallah. Unfortunately while Abidallah was making good progress towards his Premiership debut, Graaven's time at Ipswich Town got off to the worst possible start. In his first competitive match for Ipswich reserves he broke his ankle in a collision with Leicester City's Frank Sinclair. With a clean bill of health, Graaven could yet follow Abidallah into the Town first team.

Position: Forward
Birthplace: Holland

Profile:

Promising young striker snapped up from Ajax whose instinctive finishing skills could see him go a long way.  Town boss George Burley, whose club are famous for their success at developing young players, has high hopes for a first team future for the 18-year-old forward.

Graaven Released

Ipswich Town FC have released 19 year old Guillermo Graaven after the Dutch youngster failed to break into the first team after a list of injuries plagued his time at Town.

Graaven joined in the summer of 2000 along with Nabil Abidallah but a ligament injury in an early reserve game against Leicester restricted his chances at the Club. He subsequently has had a broken leg, and in August 2001 was arrested on a rape claim but was cleared in November.

Clearly he has not had the best of times at Ipswich, and we wish him well.
