Thinking about going to the Aberdeen game on Saturday?  The Wishaw Branch are trying to get enough names to run a bus to Pittodrie, so if you are interested in going then please contact Jan on 01698 372998 before Thursday.

Ricky's report of the Celtic game is now available.

'Well boss Terry Butcher defended Shaun Fagan after his red card at Parkhead yesterday.  Butcher said:
"He is obviously very upset and distraught by it.  But he was crazy in the first incident when he got booked on the far side and then he couldn't quite get there with the head and his hand comes up.  The referee had no alternative but to send him off so I can have no complaints with John Rowbotham about that.  Valgaeren's been very strong against him and blocked him. It wasn't a foul because he has won the ball and has shown his frustration and kicked out at him.  He was lucky possibly that it wasn't a red then. The indiscipline side is part of his game and he has a tendency to do that, but he has been working on that.  But I thought the other parts of his game were really good and he's still only 18 remember and can still play youth team football.  He's a lovely kid and is very self-critical. I told him to walk out with your head held high because we've all been sent off against Celtic so it's not that bad. It was normally me for kicking people.  I think I had Graeme Souness as a manager and I think he cuddled himself, but Maradona did it and got away with it."

Fagan will miss the Hearts game on Wednesday through suspension, although Terry Butcher can welcome back David Partridge, Daniel Sengewald and Stephen Pearson.  However, Sporting Life reports that after breaking through the points threshold, Partridge and Pearson will miss the upcoming matches at Aberdeen and Dundee, while Fagan will sit out the trip to Pittodrie.  With selection problems mounting, Terry Butcher admits he would bring in new faces now if he could rather than wait until January:
"Yes I want to bring people in but that's in January.  We've got seven or eight games to play before then so there's a lot of points to be gained.  I'm losing people all the time at the moment so I would like to bring people in now, but I just can't do that.  Come the window I will be able to bring in new players, but we will have to see where we are."

Butcher continued:
"I honestly think we will turn it around.  The ones that weren't in the team on Sunday would have seen that situation and thought a young kid has come in ahead of me and done well and now I've got to really battle now to get my place back.  If a player is in the team then he knows he's got to stay there. The young ones have had to come in and do men's jobs and I think they've done well.  I honestly don't think we are far away. It will take a victory to really get us going again. I do believe that we will win games and give ourselves a chance.  I thought we had good opportunities and despite having a number of problems and it not being the ideal preparation I thought they applied themselves well.  The system worked well and they gave a very good account of themselves which I am very pleased with.  We've done well and surprised a lot of people, not ourselves, that we made chances and we looked quite solid as well."

Club captain Scott Leitch is also confident the team can start climbing the table:
"We've shown enough quality and spirit to prove that we are better than where we are.  We have a lot of talented young players here and I believe we can catch the teams above them before the end of the season.  The fact that the team that finishes top of the First Division might not be promoted doesn't have any bearing on us and we will look to start with three points over Hearts."

Many of today's newspapers are reporting that former 'Well boss Eric Black could be set to take over as manager of Aberdeen next season - and will take George Adams to Pittodrie as his No 2.

Yesterday's Sunday Times contained an interesting article on Derek Adams.  You'll need to register first before you can access it, but it only takes a minute and it's free.
