James McFadden has been named the Bank of Scotland Young Player of the Month for January.  Faddy has scored eight goals in his last 13 games, including a double in the recent 4-2 home victory over Dundee.

At this afternoon's press conference, McFadden was asked how be felt about the award:
"I'm very delighted to get it and very happy to be playing in the team. At the start of the season I was playing with the U/21 squad and I just kept working hard and was delighted to get my chance in the first team. I then just wanted to play games, put in good performances and I feel you shouldn’t be there if you have no belief in yourself."

"There’s no pressure put on you if you go out and do your job. I enjoy my football have confidence and feel with every game an enthusiasm to win. I have scored a few goals which gets the confidence up. I really like to get into scoring positions and have a shot."

“I just love to get stuck in at training. We have quite a few young players in the squad at the moment and we are all playing hard to keep our places. The Manager has shown that if you are good enough you are old enough to play in the team. I don’t think it matters what age you are. I am always nervous before a game but when I get onto the pitch I am OK."

"I love to celebrate when I score a goal it just feels brilliant and if you can help the team to win the game then it makes you very happy."

His manager added:
"I'm very happy at what he has achieved in the last two or three months and all credit to him. What he has managed to achieve is down to the other players in the squad also. Some of the more experienced players helping him to adjust to first team level and the young players all helping each other on the field and at training."

Thanks to the editor of the Motherwell match programme who sent in this photo from one of his colleagues in Hong Kong.  It contains our former wonder winger Andy Roddie representing Hong Kong in a tournament last year against Paraguay and Norway.  You might also be able to pick out Paul Ritchie, who now plays for Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
