We humped Hibs 4-0 at Fir Park this afternoon, with a second half hat-trick from new signing David Ferrere!  Motherwell dominated proceedings for virtually the whole 90 mins and thoroughly deserved their emphatic win over a dire Hibs side.

Eric Black made a few changes to the side that lost to Livvy last week.  Out went Soloy (injured) McFadden (suspended) and Pearson (dropped), and in came Corrigan, Lasley and Adams.

There's very little to say about the first half as there were few incidents of real note.  Derek Adams hit the outside of the post with a free-kick (no, honestly!) but apart from that not much else happened.  Hibs had perhaps one or two half-chances but Stevie Woods was never really troubled.  In fact, possibly the highlight of the first 45 mins was the constant booing of Derek Townsley on his return to Fir Park.  Good stuff!

Enter 5ft 2inch David Ferrere.  His first touch of the ball was a free-kick which must have been from around 35 yards from goal, which he put just over the bar.  With his second touch he put Motherwell into the lead, when he killed Elliott's cross with his first touch and buried the ball into the corner of the net with his second.  It was 2-0 after 65 mins with virtually a carbon copy of the first goal, only this time Hibs 'keeper Colgan should probably have saved Ferrere's close range shot.  Dirk Lehman made it 3-0 after 72 mins with a header at the back post, and then that man Ferrere completed his hat-trick with another close range effort.

The second half was embarrassing at times as we completely outplayed Hibs, and the scoreline did not flatter us at all.  David Ferrere is already an instant hero with the 'Well fans, and it's amazing to think that he had been out of professional football since the summer!  How on earth he follows up this performance is anyone's guess, but I for one am looking forward to it!  It'll be very interesting to see him and James McFadden in the same team...

Come on ye 'Well!

Quick footnote to today's game, and possibly one of the best lookalikes ever!  Our hat-trick hero, David Ferrere, is officially the double of Herve Villechaize.  Who? I hear you ask!  Well, he's the midget actor who starred in Fantasy Island and also played Nick Nack in The Man with the Golden Gun!

One of this morning's tabloids reports that Derek Adams has decided to stay at Fir Park after refusing to give in to the "boo-boys" who abused him at the cup defeat by Dunfermline last month.  The 26-year-old, contracted to the club until 2003, spent several weeks thinking over his future following the Dunfermline game, but now wants to get his Motherwell career back on track.  He said:
"My gut feeling that night was to pack it in.  I was shocked by what happened at Dunfermline and wasn't prepared to stand for it.  I was also aware a number of players before me had suffered the same kind of abuse and had left the club.  But I'm glad now that I didn't go by my emotions then.  It would've been too easy to run away from it.  I spoke to a lot of people, including the manager, and they all told me I should stay and fight through it.  We will just have to see the reaction to me when I play again.  I appreciate criticism is part of football - but there was nothing to justify what was said at Dunfermline.  I spoke to a few fans and they said they hoped I would stay.  That was nice - but I knew anyway it was only a minority of people giving me stick."

Eric Black added:
"Derek typifies the kind of attitude I want and I'm delighted he has decided to stay.  He is in the squad for the Hibs game."
