One of this morning's tabloids is reporting that Maurice Malpas has been offered the assistant manager's position at Fir Park. Malpas, who until recently was assistant manager to Paul Hegarty at Dundee Utd, has apparently been approached by Motherwell with a view to becoming Terry Butcher's No 2 following the departure of George Adams to Rangers. The newspaper article suggested that TB's current assisstant, Chris McCart, would return to coaching the Under-18s, leaving the way clear for Malpas to take over.

The SPL are set to launch an inquiry into why Motherwell's game with Celtic was called-off only two hours prior to kick-off on Saturday. Apparently SPL rules state that member clubs must provide "adequate pitch protection", and therefore we could find ourselves being fined by the governing body. According to one newspaper article which appeared over the weekend, Motherwell are now seriously considering installing undersoil heating at the end of the season.
