And next up it's.....CLYDE AWAY! Yep, we will travel to Broadwood on Saturday, Feb 22 to face Clyde in the 4th round of the Scottish Cup. Oh well, another away tie but at least it's not against SPL opposition, although Clyde are currently doing well in Division 1. Should be a good 'un.
Speaking after the game, Terry Butcher announced that Stephen Craig has signed for Motherwell until the end of the season. The striker scored for the U-21s at Easter Road last Monday night, and with Dirk Lehmann still doubtful for Wednesday Craig will surely come into the reckoning. Butcher also said that he was talking to Nottingham Forest defender Tony Vaughan's agent and hopes to have a deal concluded by the end of the week. It appears as though Soren Larsen will NOT be offered a contract.
We won 1-0 at Rugby Park this afternoon to progress to the 4th round of the Scottish Cup. Backed by a large and noisy travelling support, the Steelmen deservedly went through courtesy of a James McFadden penalty in the first half. To be honest, it wasn't exactly the greatest of games, but I'm sure no one in the Motherwell camp will be complaining. The first half in particular look a long while to get going, indeed it was fully 30 mins before either goalkeeper was seriously called into action. Motherwell certainly had the upper hand for the majority of the opening 45 mins, but we seldom looked like scoring. Then in 33 mins the impressive Clarkson turned his man brilliantly and ran in on goal, only to be brought down in the box by the home side's Shields. James McFadden stepped up and made no mistake with the spot kick to put us 1-0 in front. Faddy almost made it 2-0 just a couple of minutes later but his free kick was well saved by Marshall. Into the second half, and Killie were reduced to 10 men when Innes was dismissed for his second bookable offence. However, this actually turned the game in Kilmarnock's favour as Motherwell seemed content to sit back and protect their lead. Despite having a great deal of possession, the home side rarely looked like grabbing an equaliser, in fact it was probably Motherwell who were the team most likely to grab a goal as we caught Killie on the break time and time again, only for some poor finishing to let us down. In the end though it didn't matter, and we held on for a deserved 1-0 win. For me, the highlight today was that for once we have taken a large support to an away game and NOT let them down! Although it wasn't the best performance we have produced all season, we still have several stand-outs including Corrigan, Kinniburgh (the sponsor's man of the match) and 17-year-old David Clarkson, who will probably now be expected to lead the line with Faddy suspended for the next four games. A good day out was had by all. In fact, the only downside was that I couldn't get a pre-match drink anywhere as the pubs were all crammed full of 'Well fans! Team (4-4-2): Dubourdeau, Corrigan, Kinniburgh, Partridge,
Hammell (Cowan 80), Lasley (Fagan 86), Leitch, Adams, Pearson, Clarkson,
McFadden. Booked: Clarkson, McFadden. Attendance: 6,882
