Today's result: St Mirren 0, Motherwell 0. The last ever game to be played at Love St ended in a goalless draw, although Motherwell will definitely regard it as two points dropped as we easily created the better openings, especially in the second half, and had two decent penalty claims dismissed. There was just one change to the side which defeated Inverness last week, with Keith Lasley replacing Marc Fitzpatrick. The first half was fairly uneventful, with neither goalkeeper called into serious action. Things picked up a bit after the break, and with Motherwell finally trying to play the ball on the deck we created several opportunities, the best of which probably fell to O'Brien but his flick was saved by the Saints goalkeeper. A deflected Porter effort also went close before a Kimpl thunderbolt appeared to be handled by a St Mirren defender, however the referee waved away the penalty appeals. Then in injury time, Quinn looked like he was bundled over in the box, but again the ref bottled the decision as he clearly didn't want to spoil the party for St Mirren. Another decent performance today, and if we'd played for 90 mins like we did in the second half we'd surely have taken all three points. Man of the match for me was without doubt Klimpl, while O'Brien put in another impressive shift before being subbed. Team (4-4-2): Graeme Smith, Quinn, Craigan, Reynolds, Hammell, Klimpl,
Hughes, Lasley, O'Brien (Murphy 82), Porter, Clarkson. Booked: Lasley. Attendance: 10,189 Mark McGhee's post-match comments were as follows: "Today was progression from last week. We won last week and we drew today but this was a much harder game for us. I'm satisfied that results have been all right for us. I think we are still in contention to claw ourselves into the top six and we have an opportunity on Wednesday to improve again and hopefully beat Hearts." When asked about the two penalty decisions, McGhee would only
say: It seems that Mark McGhee would be in favour of Motherwell following St Mirren's lead and moving to a new stadium. The 'Well manager confirmed to the Herald that tentative discussions have taken place over the construction of a new stadium at Ravenscraig. Maros Klimpl has extended his loan spell until the end of the season. The transfer window has only been open for three days, but already there's been no shortage of activity at Fir Park. Birmingham City goalkeeper Artur Krysiak has arrived on loan until the end of the season, while ex-Fulham midfielder Simon Elliott, former York defender Byron Webster and Norwegian defender Lars Martin are all currently on trial.
