Quick update on the Pearson situation.  His agent said today that the midfielder's proposed move to Leicester City is doomed if Motherwell hold out for a £400,000 fee, as the Premiership side will not pay more than £325,000:
"Stephen doesn't want to play for Motherwell, he is desperate to play for Leicester.  He does not want to miss out on this opportunity and it would be wrong for Motherwell to stand in Stephen's way. This is a superb chance for him."

Meanwhile, Martyn Corrigan is hopeful of an improved Motherwell performance at Ayr on Saturday following two disappointing draws against Hamilton and Stenhousemuir:
"Usually your first two or three matches of pre-season is just to get you back into the swing of things more than anything else.  You work hard on the training ground on your fitness and then it takes you a couple of matches to find your touch again and get your sharpness back.  Results aren't that important, but, of course, it would be nice to win down at Ayr. We all want to impress so we're in the starting line-up for the competitive action.

"We're all looking forward to the start of the new season and hopefully giving a good account of ourselves.  The manager has brought in a few new faces over the summer to improve the team.  Gordon Marshall is a very experienced keeper and Alex Burns and Stephen Craigan both played very well for Partick Thistle last term, so I'm sure they'll all do well here.  We've already got some very good players at this club and what we went through last season will help us. We don't want to end up in the same position again, that's for sure.  Our aim is to make a good start to the new season and take things from there, but there is a positive feeling at the club."
