Teamtalk report that Oldham are considering legal action following Chris Porter's controversial switch to Fir Park.  The English side missed out on compensation for the 23-year-old striker due to a loophole in cross-border transfers.

Meanwhile, Mark McGhee made no apology for taking advantage of the rules to sign Porter:
"We were all aware of the circumstances which allowed us to exploit the transfer rules, and get Chris without a fee which would have been required down south.  I am pleased to get the player who we would not normally be able to bring if a fee was involved and now he is here I hope he scores goals for us."

Full details are available from the Official Site and football365.com.

McGhee has also admitted he is interested in signing ex-Rangers player Stephen Hughes from Leicester, and taking defender Adam Virgo on loan from Celtic.  However, it seems that Hughes is set to join Hearts.

There has also been talk of a loan deal for German striker Mustapha Kucukovic from McGhee's old club Hamburg, while two Polish trialists will join the squad for the pre-season tour of Austria next week.  They are believed to be Robert Gubiec, a 28-year-old goalkeeper available on a free from Wisla Plock, and Marek Szyndrowski, a 26-year0old left-sided midfielder from Korona Kielce.

McGhee is quoted as saying:
"We could do with a minimum of four more players  We don't have a naturally left-sided midfield player and we need another centre-forward.  I'll need to assess the squad more before deciding what positions the other two should be, but a club that finished tenth in the league last season clearly needs something.

"I have been talking to Leicester City and to Stephen Hughes' representatives but there is a lot of interest in him and it will be difficult for us to beat off the opposition. But we will try.

"We will have a look a several players in Austria next week.  We will get a look at Kucukovic and Felix Magath has invited me to the Wolfsburg training camp for a day to see which of his players may be able to come and help us."

Our home game with Hearts scheduled for Saturday, September 1 has been moved to Monday, September 3 at 7.45pm for live coverage on Setanta.

Mark McGhee has warned defender Mark Reynolds he will have little opportunity to rest once he returns from Scotland Under-20 duty.  Full article from football365.com.
