Update: 2.40pm

The Official Sheffield Utd site reports that David Kelly has completed his move to Motherwell.  It turns out that the former Republic of Ireland international is in fact 35, and the website confirms he turned down a coaching role at Brammal Lane to sign on at Fir Park.  The Blades' manager Neil Warnock, is quoted as saying:
"I'm sorry David is leaving us because he has been a great influence and I wanted him to do a job for us. But I totally understand his decision to play on and really wish him all the best in the Scottish Premier League - its yet another challenge for him."

Our new signing!

This coming Saturday, six different supporters' teams will take part in a 7-aside tournament on the Fir Park astroturf pitch.  For your enjoyment, the Unofficial Motherwell Site will be entering not one, but TWO teams, so at least one of us is guaranteed not to finish last.  The tourney is being organised by Matt Johnstone, who with a bit of help from Karen Paterson of MFC made the draw this afternoon.  The schedule is as follows:

  Group A Group B
10.00am Football Aid v One Step Beyond Wee Alpha v FPC
10.40am One Step Beyond v Unofficials A FPC v Unofficials B
11.20am Unofficials A v Football Aid Unofficials B v Wee Alpha
12noon Third placed teams play-off
12.40pm Second placed teams play-off
1.20pm Group winners play-off

With such a wealth of talent to choose from, it obviously wasn't easy breaking our squad up into two teams but fortunately KP was brave enough to attempt it.  Here are his selections:

Unofficials 'A' Unofficials 'B'
Ally Milne Keith "Two Here" Peppiatt
Graeme Morrison Brian
James Reid Alan (Keith's mate)
Stuart Allan Ricky "Hot Shot" Mullen
Zod Man Darren
Boaby Wardrope Davie
Graham Faulkner Pat
Graeme Dick Kenny (Brian's brother)

Following the final, a short presentation ceremony will take place in the Davie Cooper suite.

What are the chances of the two Unofficial sides meeting in the final?  Pretty remote actually, but we can dream!

This morning's papers report that Billy Davies and Pat Nevin were yesterday locked in talks with Sheffield United's freed former Republic of Ireland striker David Kelly.  The 34-year-old scored eight times for the Blades last season and wants to keep playing, but has been offered a coaching role at Brammall Lane.  Speaking today, he said:
"I have been offered the reserve team manager's job at Sheffield United but I really want to keep playing.  I'm interested in what Billy is offering. I feel I have something to offer a top-class side and the opportunity to play in the Scottish Premier League is appealing."

The Official St Mirren site has an interesting interview with supposed Motherwell target Ricky Gillies.  Sounds as though he'll definitely be on his way from Love Street...
