Both the Unofficial sides had an enjoyable day out at the Supporters' 7-aside Tournament this morning, and we even got the opportunity to play each other in the second round of matches.
Unofficial A's first game was against Matt Johnstone's One Step Beyond side, and we cruised to an easy 11-3 victory with Ally Milne bagging 5 goals in the process. I even managed to get on the scoresheet myself, which probably says more about the standard of the opposition than it does about my football ability! However, we came up against tougher opposition in our second match in the form of the Football Aid team, and a slow start saw them take a 3-0 lead before our lads had settled. They added a fourth midway through the match, and although Ally pulled a goal back late on the Footie Aiders held on for a comfortable 4-1 win.
Unofficial B kicked off against our old "rivals" FirParkCorner, and with Ricky Mullen in top form there was only ever going to be one winner with the 'B' team cruising to a 6-3 victory. The goals came from Ricky (2), Alan (2) and Davie (2). However, like their counterparts, the 'B' team came up against stronger opposition in their second match, going down 3-1 to the tough-tackling Wee Alpha.
The results meant that both teams finished second in their respective groups, and would play each other in the second round of matches. With the players so familiar to each other, it was always going to be a tight affair and at the end of normal time, the score was tied at 3-3. Penalties were required, and the 'B' team's goalie Darren pulled off two brilliant saves to win the match for Unofficial B. However, it has to be said that he got a bit of help from A's first penalty taker, Stuart Allan, who blasted his spot kick into orbit.
With Unofficial B finishing third and 'A' finishing fourth, all our players could hold their heads high as they left the pitch. A good day out was had by all, and special thanks must go to Matt for organising the tourney. Thanks also to Billy Davies, who turned up for a short while accompanied by our new signing, David Kelly.
