BUTCHER DISMISSES PEARSON TRANSFER SPECULATION

Motherwell Football Club manager, Terry Butcher, today (Monday) dismissed speculation that the club was considering a bid for Scotland under 21 international, Stephen Pearson.

Butcher said:
"There has been speculation that Leicester City have tabled a bid for Pearson. It is not true and if clubs think that they can get players on the cheap from Motherwell, they are very misguided.

"Stephen is an extremely talented player and we look forward to him being at the fore front of our challenge next season."

Butcher also defended the signing of Alex Burns and Stephen Craigan from Partick Thistle.

Butcher said:
"Motherwell has acted entirely properly throughout this episode. The players were leaving Partick Thistle anyway because they were out of contract. We have actually saved money by signing these players because others have left Fir Park. It has been a very sensible piece of business for us. We have not broken any rules and have behaved honourably.

Quick plug from Matt regarding the forthcoming 5-aside tourney...

There will be a selection of Motherwell memorabilia for sale at the WWS 5-a-sides on Saturday 14th June. Loads of stuff to rummage through if you're interested in that kind of thing, old programmes, fanzines, cigarette cards, bubblegum cards, panini stickers, match tickets, photo's, team sheets, autograph sheets, CD's, video's, possibly some T-shirts if I can get them done in time and of course copies of Joe Wark Knew My Father Tae (just don't expect Saturday is Service Day under the counter heh heh) Something for everyone hopefully, giveaways, bargain boxes, rarer items and the chance to laugh at us sannies trying to play fitba', all for a good cause. There will be some old 'Well video's playing all day in the bar area so it's not just for the guys playing. Let's make it a good day out all round.

The SFA will hear Falkirk's appeal against the decision to deny them promotion to the top flight on June 30. The appeal panel will consist of Lord McLean (High Court judge), John McBeth (President of the SFA) and George Peat (Vice –President). However, the SPL have raised questions over the SFA's jurisdiction to hear the appeal, and this will be addressed at a preliminary meeting on June 19. If it is decided that the SFA have no power to intervene, Falkirk will be left to pusue their claim to the Office of Fair Trading and perhaps through the courts. Confused? Yup, me too.

Weekend newspaper reports claimed that Motherwell are currently thinking over a £250,000 offer from Leicester City for Stephen Pearson.

Speaking of Pearo, the midfielder turned out for Scotland Under-21s in their 2-2 with Germany Under-21s at Rugby Park on Friday night.
