'Well captain Scott Leitch has signed a new one-year contract, and is convinced the club still has a bright future despite the recent departures of Lasley, Adams and Craig.  He said:
"I'm sure we can build on last year.  The gaffer has to bed in a new midfield, but we have players here already who are capable of doing a job there.  However, I'm sure players will arrive in the summer - two or three bodies would be nice.  Add the kids we have like David Clarkson and Paul Quinn then of course we can be optimistic.  Motherwell have always lost their so-called big name players but we've always come back.  Think back over the years - Andy Walker, Brian McClair, Tom Boyd, James McFadden and Stephen Pearson have all moved on but, perhaps more importantly, so has the club.  The same will happen again, we'll deal with the most recent losses.  We have a great youth system so Motherwell will always cope when players move on.  We're a selling club, always have been, and in many ways we are the victims of our own success because our form last year got these three guys their move.

"I've signed a new one-year deal and, given the state of the game, I'm absolutely delighted to get that.  We've lost a lot of players so I was happy to re-sign and I'm already looking forward to the new season.  I'm sure the manager is already looking for three or four new faces.  He will have pinpointed players before the season ended and when he knows how much money he has, he'll bring new players in."

Leitch missed much of last season due to a recurring shoulder injury, but says he is now back to full fitness and reckons he has another two years left in him:
"Although I have signed for a year I don't see this as my last - far from it.  I'm enjoying the coaching side but I want to keep playing for as long as I can.  Who knows, if I do well this season I might get another deal next year.  I know I can keep playing for another two years at least."

The Motherwell Times reports that another match has been added to our list of pre-season friendlies - away to Cowdenbeath on Saturday, July 24.  The full schedule is therefore:

Sat 17 July - Stirling Albion (away)
Wed 21 July - Stenhousemuir (away)
Sat 24 July - Cowdenbeath (away)
Tue 27 July - St Mirren (away)
Sat 31 July -  Stranraer (away)

Mouth-watering or what?

I've been asked to give a quick plug to the All Point Charity North Challenge, a fund-raising event which involves a group of supporters attempting to visit every Scottish League ground in the space of 24 hours.
