Rangers' fourth choice goalkeeper Graeme Smith has become our first signing of the summer when he agreed a two-year deal at Fir Park. The 22-year-old played 20 games for Ross County during a loan spell last season, and will join up with his new Motherwell team mates when pre-season training begins tomorrow.

The fixture list for 2005/06 has been confirmed, and Motherwell will open the season at home to Celtic on Saturday July 30 (12.30pm, live on Setanta) before facing successive away games at Dunfermline and Kilmarnock. We're at home to Aberdeen on boxing day and away to Livingston on Hogmanay (could be a very long day!), and will face Rangers at Fir Park in the last match before the 'split'.

Full details are available from the BBC website.

According to Friday's Sun, John Boyle has decided to move allocate the Davie Cooper Stand to the Celtic support on the opening day, meaning that DC Stand season ticket holders will have to move to the East and Main Stands. The official line from the club is that no decision has been taken as yet...

Still on the subject of fixtures, here's a quick reminder of our pre-season schedule:

Sat July 9 - Queen's Park (a)
Tue July 12 - Southampton (h)
Thu July 14 - Clyde (a)
Sat July 16 - Everton (h)
Wed July 20 - Airdrie Utd (a)
Thu July 21 - Annan Athletic (a)
Sat July 23 - Queen of the South (a)

The Official Motherwell Site has an article detailing repair work ongoing at Fir Park during the close season. Reckon this will be used in the argument for moving 'Well fans to "maximise revenue" on the opening day?
