The latest in the McCulloch/McMillan transfer saga is that Wigan
chairman Dave Whelan flew the pair down to the JJB Stadium last night in his
private helicopter. The duo will discuss personal terms and are expected
to sign for the English second division side within the next couple of
days. Speaking in this morning's papers, McCulloch said:
"It is all happening so quickly we haven't
really had time to think about it. But
going to Wigan and seeing the set-up for ourselves will help. They
seem to be an ambitious club and it is certainly an impressive move by their
chairman to provide his own helicopter to take us down there. I'd
never been in one before so it was a completely new experience. It's
difficult to say what will happen but my agent will handle the negotiations and
we will see what happens after that."
Darlington are reported to be interested in Don Goodman.
Their manager, Gary Bennett, has admitted an interest in the 35-year-old
striker, who is available on a free at the end of the season. Bennett
said:
"I know Don very well from our days at Sunderland but he is just one of
several players we have made enquiries about."
One of today's papers is linking us with a move for Kilmarnock goalkeeper Colin Meldrum. The 25-year-old, who worked with Pat Nevin when he was at Rugby Park, is out of contract at the end of the season and could move to Fir Park for no fee. The former Scotland Under-21 star is understood to be frustrated by Gordon Marshall´s extended run in the Kilmarnock first team and would jump at the chance to replace Andy Goram.
