According to the Evening Times, a second signing has joined the club on loan.  Mark Nicholls, a 23-year-old midfielder, has arrived from Chelsea for a trial period and hopes to win a permanent move to Fir Park.  Nicholls, who is available on a Bosman in the summer, made 36 appearances for the London side and scored three goals, but has struggled to make an impact recently and has already spent loan spells at Reading and Grimsby.  He is expected to play in a couple of closed door games against lower league opposition.  Speaking today, Pat Nevin said:
"Mark has been with us for the last week, but because of the weather we haven´t really had much of a chance to watch him.  But we´re not in any rush and hopefully the manager will be able to have a close look at him over the next couple of weeks.  We can take him on loan from Chelsea until the end of the season if that is what Billy Davies wants, and then Mark would be available for transfer in the summer.  However, he is only one of a number of players we will be bringing in to watch at close quarters.  We´ll have a few more in with Mark this week. That is the way it goes now and sometimes it helps to have players in training every day because you really get to see how good they are.  Footballers realise that there will be a lot of players out of contract in the summer and some don´t want to be part of the pack of guys hunting around for a club.  So, sometimes they come in before the end of the season and try to win a move, and that could work in our favour. Hibs are doing the same and hopefully some of the lads can impress us enough to earn a contract."

"With us not having a game to prepare for, we can spend some time talking to all our players about new deals. It´s up to Billy who we offer new contracts to, but hopefully we can get things moving.  We were hoping to deal with them last week, but then Lee McCulloch and Stephen McMillan´s moves to Wigan took up most of our time, but we´ll be working hard on that side of things now."

One of this morning's tabloids is reporting that we are set to sign Brann Bergen skipper Arne Moen in a £200,000 deal.  The Norwegian centre-half, a former team-mate and friend of Rangers' striker Tore Andre Flo, arrives at Fir Park today for a week-long trial with a view to securing a permanent deal.  The 29-year-old is out-of-contract in the summer, but is desperate to move on immediately after falling out with the Brann Bergen manager.  Hearts and Huddersfield are also reported to be interested in Moen, who said yesterday:
"I have a few options although I will start training with Motherwell on Tuesday and I will stay until the weekend.  I'm told they need a central defender and I really hope the transfer can go through.  I will be a good signing for them because the British style of play will suit my game.  I played with Tore Andre Flo at Tromso and Brann Bergen and we became good friends.  I have already checked on the map how close Glasgow is to Motherwell so hopefully I will be able to live beside him."

Ricky's report of the Hibs game is now available.
