One of this morning's tabloids is reporting that Motherwell are interested in Dundee defender Steven Tweed. The 28-year-old still has a year to run on his contract and therefore a fee will be needed to get his signature. Tweed is seen as a replacement for the out-of-contract Benito Kemble, who is likely to return to Holland in the summer.
The same newspaper also claims that we are interested in former Inter Milan goalkeeper Raffael Nuzzo. Our old friends at Wigan are also believed to be keeping tabs on him.
Billy Davies was at yesterday's Hamilton Accies v East Stirling match at Firhill, apparently to watch Accies' striker Davie McFarlane.
Speaking in today's Sunday Mail, Ged Brannan says he fears Billy
Davies could be the next to leave the club. He said:
"Billy is a quality boss and knows the game inside out. It is
unfortunate he is having to work with little or no money and I just hope he can
find some bargains in the transfer market. But the situation might benefit
him. If Billy does well people will take notice and he will become a
target for bigger clubs - that's if he is not being looked at already.
There is no doubt Billy will land a top job and he would do well down south. I'd
love it if he did because he might sign me again."
In the same article, Lee McCulloch spoke of his transfer to
Wigan:
"I know if I can do well here I will get noticed and the bigger the
platform we are playing on the better. Everything is geared for success
here with a 25,000 all-seater stadium. Even the training ground has full-size
indoor pitches. An automatic promotion spot might be beyond us but we are
confident we can make it through the play-offs."
"It's a bit doom and gloom at Motherwell at the moment but I'm confident it won't be long before things are on the up again. There are some terrific youngsters at Fir Park such as Keith Lasley, Stevie Hammell and Dougie Ramsay and they deserve to be given a chance every week. I know people think it is unfair to throw kids in at the deep end but it didn't do me any harm - or Stevie McMillan either. Maybe the current crop of Well youngsters can do the same as we did and move on, bringing in some cash for the club in the process."
The Sunday Post reports that Motherwell were offered a 20% stake in any future transfer moves for either Stevie McMillan or Lee McCulloch - and Pat Nevin chose McMillan.
