It's been confirmed that Kevin Twaddle has signed a new three-year contract.  Despite constant rumours linking him with a move to Tynecastle, Motherwell said that at no point did they receive an enquiry about the player.  Speaking this evening, he said:
"I have committed myself to the club for three years. I have never doubted my own ability, but this gives me and my family some stability.  The club have been good to me, and I enjoy being here. Now I want to steer clear of injuries, maintain a regular place in the side and repay the fans for missing out so often this season."

Billy Davies added:
"It's good to get the big man on board and I think people know that I feel he can be a massive player for us. I have to say that he is going to be worked to death so that we can get the very best out of him at what should be the best years of his career. We are still looking to bring in some others and there are fourteen days until the transfer deadline so here's hoping."

The club have also announced that Nigerian defender James Okoli has signed until the end of the season.  The 33-year-old has had spells with Hertha Berlin and Watford, and was one of several trialists who turned out for Motherwell during last week's closed-door game against Dundee.  Okoli was born in Lagos but holds a Dutch passport.  Speaking this evening, Billy Davies said:
"James Okoli has been training with us for a couple of weeks and showed up well in a closed-door game last Friday.  He is a tall, strong defender with a cultured touch who likes to play his way out of defence.  He will give extra depth to our depleted squad in the three important matches before the split."

Pat Nevin added:
"We have received international clearance and expect to get formal clearance from the English FA because of his link with Watford in time to allow him to be in the squad to face Rangers."

Team news ahead of Sunday's game: Benito Kemble, Derek Adams and Derek Townsley are all suspended but Paul Harvey may return after long-term injury.

This morning's Sun reports that Kevin Twaddle is set to halt the Fir Park exodus by signing a new three-year contract today.  Apparently Twads has agreed terms and the new deal will keep him at Fir Park until 2004.

Mark Brown says he's out to impress Billy Davies during his trial preiod at the club.  Brown, who is also being tracked by Barnsley, Sheffield Wednesday and Millwall, said:
"It's ironic that I'm working with the Goalie again. I learned so much from him as a kid at Rangers. Billy Davies asked me down and it's nice that he's interested in me. I'm not sure where my future lies but we'll assess it at the end of the week."

John Spencer scored twice on his debut for MLS side Colorado Rapids.  Spenny came on as a second half substitute as Colorado beat Chicago 4-3.
