Motherwell have agreed to sell Andy Goram to Manchester United for £100,000.  The exact details of the transfer are not yet known, but The Goalie and his agent, Kenny Moyes are heading south and he is expected to sign officially tomorrow morning.

Speaking this evening, Pat Nevin said:
"The deal is agreed and he is on his way down just now. Now it is a question of getting the paperwork done.  We came to an agreement. It's a perfectly sensible deal if you think about it.  United have been very clever - it's a clever piece of lateral thinking. They needed a goalkeeper short-term and someone who has been there before and will be able to cope with the big atmosphere.  They have got the right man and it is fantastic move for him as well. There was no way we could stand in his way and all three parties are happy now."

Don Goodman is set to sign for English second division side Walsall tomorrow.  Full details later...

Unbelievably, Manchester United are trying to sign Andy Goram until the end of the season.  The Goalie is expected to travel to Manchester shortly to hold talks with the Premiership Champions and could play against Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the European Cup.  United have been hit by a a goalkeeping injury crisis with both Fabien Barthez and Raimond van der Gouw out injured.  It is believed Motherwell will receive a nominal fee for Goram, who will be 37 next month.

Speaking today, Pat Nevin confirmed United's interest but said that their initial approach had been rejected:
"They contacted us this morning with regards to Andy going on loan but that would not really have made sense to us because we need him. It would be silly of us to lose our captain and goalkeeper at such an important part of the season.  We are in the middle of discussions. We left it open for them to come back to us with one or two things."

Sounds as though we're holding our for some cash!

Goram's agent, Kenny Moyes, said:
"Andy will travel to Manchester tomorrow for talks, but there are still a few hurdles to overcome."

Today's Sun reports that Motherwell want former player Billy Thompson to return to the club as a goalkeeping coach.  Thompson is currently coaching at Dundee but still lives in the Motherwell area.  However, Dundee United are also reported to be interested and may offer him a similar post at Tannadice.
