Stuart Elliott netted his first ever international goal as Northern Ireleand went down 4-3 to Bulgaria in a World Cup qualifier this afternoon.

Steve Woods will be in goal for Motherwell at Tynecastle on Saturday, and until the end of the season.  The club have been forced to drop plans to sign Rangers' goalkeeper Mark Brown as the Glasgow club's valuation was well above what Motherwell were willing to pay.  However, Billy Davies has not yet ruled out keeping Andy Goram at Fir Park when his contact with Manchester United expires at the end of the season.  He said:
"The latest news on the goalkeeping situation is that Stevie Woods will be in goal until the end of the season and then we will take a look at what's happening after that. I have no doubts about putting Stevie in goal as he has came in before and done really well for us when Andy has been injured.  As far as I'm concerned, Andy is a Manchester United player, but when he returns then we will assess it, although if he does well at Old Trafford then they could offer him a deal."

BD went on to say that he has no plans to strengthen the squad further before Friday's transfer deadline.

With our chances of making the top six all but gone, BD could use the the remainder of the season to experiment with his line-up.  He said:
"We have got to look to the players at the club just now, like Dougie Ramsay, Keith Lasley and Stevie Nicholas, to come into the first-team reckoning.  All of them have done really well since coming in and everyone has had the chance to watch them in action and I think the supporters have been pleased with their performances so far.  If you look at our last few results since bringing some of the youngsters in, many people would say we were unfortunate not to take maximum points from the Hibs and Rangers games.  If the fans can get behind them and give them the necessary backing then we can hopefully achieve some results before the end of the season."

Early team news ahead of Saturday's game: Benito Kemble and Kevin Twaddle are struggling through injury, but Stevie Hammell has recovered from the virus which forced him to pull out of the Scotland Under-21 squad last week.

It looks as though Andy Goram will miss out on playing in the Champions League with Manchester United.  The on-loan goalkeeper has not been registered for the Champions League as United's other two goalkeepers, Fabien Barthez and Raimond van der Gouw, are on their way back to full fitness.  Barthez was back in training yesterday and has declared himself fit for United's game at Anfield on Saturday, meaning The Goalie might have to settle for a place on the bench at best.
