At today's Fir Park press conference, Billy Davies was asked
about the current state of play with regard to the squad:
"Kemble, Twaddle and Hammell have just started back training after
various problems, and we will just have to wait and see. Paul Harvey has managed
another 90 minutes so he could be in the squad for Saturday. We will see how
Stuart Elliott comes back after his game for Northern Ireland. It was great to
see him score at that level, he has a real eye for goals but he has to continue
to improve.
"Looking at the squad we have we really ought to find out what they can do. There will be chances for the likes of Stevie Nicholas to get a little run in the team. So there will be no rush to bring anyone in before the deadline. We are still looking and trying people out and doing all our homework, but we have to look at the bigger picture."
Andy Goram has spoken about the goalkeeping situation at Old
Trafford, now that Fabien Barthez and Raimond van der Gouw are nearing full fitness:
"I always knew what the situation
would be if the other two keepers were fit so there's no big problem.
At this stage I don't know what's
happening because nobody is here. The manager is on his way back from Dubai and
all the players are on international duty. Nobody knows what's going on.
Of course I'd love to play against
Liverpool. It's a massive game - it won't be any bigger than an Old Firm game -
but it would still be nice to experience. It
will probably be left up to Barthez to decide. If he feels fit I'd imagine he'll
play.
"The rush last week was to sign me in time to register for the rest of the Premiership season. We did that. But they can register me in the European Cup up to 24 hours before the game so there is no panic. If one of them is injured at any time then they can sign me the day before the game. So there is no problem - it's not as if they have missed a deadline or anything."
