Today's Wishaw
Press confirms that Motherwell will be looking for a new shirt sponsor next
season after Motorola decided to end their 11 year association with the
club. A spokesman for the American-owned company is quoted as saying:
"The time is right for us to start looking at other sponsorships, mainly
education and training initiatives. We have a number of initiatives in
Scottish schools, Women Into Science and Engineering, which are all aimed at
generating an interest in science in the future. We will develop that further in
the future. It's been a great pleasure working with Motherwell Football
Club over the past 11 years. Our sponsorship of Motherwell was one of the
longest-running in Scottish football. A lot of our employees are loyal
fans of Motherwell and there's still regular visits to Fir Park. They have
enjoyed the relationship we have generated over the past 11 years. There's
always been a good atmosphere at Fir Park, which is why we've been involved for
so long. However, the time has come for us to concentrate on education and
training, and we wish Motherwell all the best for the future."
Pat Nevin went on to say:
"Motorola were with Motherwell for 11 years, and were more than just
sponsors, they were friends as well, as they became an integral part of the
club. We totally understand the reasons why they've had to pull out, as
it's been a distressing time for them over the past few months with people
losing their jobs. I don't think anyone has anything negative to say about
Motorola, as any time they've been involved with us they've been as good as
gold. At the moment, it's a difficult time for football clubs financially.
It's tough for finances with football clubs and business in general. We're
currently in discussions with a number of companies, but there will be no
announcement imminent in the next few weeks."
Time for a new Fans' Poll....
Are the club right to get rid of
Eddie Forrest?
