Tonight's supporters' meeting at Fir Park was a great success, and £930 was raised towards the 'Well Worth Saving campaign.  Perhaps the most encouraging aspect of the evening was that due to the number of fans who turned up (estimated at around 500), the Davie Cooper Suite was simply not big enough to cope and we had to move to the Davie Cooper stand itself.  A full report will follow shortly (probably tomorrow morning), but the main items discussed included:

  • arranging a fundraising night in the Civic Centre with after-dinner speakers etc.

  • a supporters' 7-aside tournament at Fir Park on June 29

  • a "dream day" at Fir Park with the chance to take part in a full 11-aside game on the pitch

  • the formation of a Motherwell Supporters' Trust in the medium to long-term

However, the main point of the evening was to encourage fans to attend the forthcoming matches against Chievo and Dundee.  And if you have any fundraising ideas, or any suggestions for the 'Well Worth Saving campaign, please let us know!

Don't forget about the 'Well Worth Saving meeting in the Davie Cooper Suite at 8pm tonight!

Motherwell administrator Bryan Jackson has warned fans not to expect a quick fix to the club's financial problems.  Jackson, who met with the SPL, the SFA and SPFA this morning, called for fans to turn out in numbers for the games against Chievo and Dundee:
"There have been several expressions of interest in the club but these are at an early stage and Motherwell is likely to remain in administration for the foreseeable future.  I should remind people that I have been administrator at Clydebank for two years and a sale has not been successfully effected yet.

"I will be talking to those who have expressed an interest in Motherwell but no one should expect this to be resolved overnight.  The cost-cutting that has taken place at the club is essential to keep it alive over the coming months. Without these measures Motherwell could not continue.

"There are only two matches to be played at Fir Park before the end of the season and it is essential that these are well attended.  Quite simply, the club needs revenue from these matches and it is vital that at the end of a very difficult week at the club everyone with Motherwell at heart remains committed to ensuring it has a future."

The latest name to be suggested as a possible buyer of the club is local businessman Matt Thomson, a former director who used to play with the 'Well in the late 70s.

Today's papers suggest that Dirk Lehmann has been targeted by English sides Plymouth Argyle and an unnamed First Division team.  The 30-year-old is still thinking over a revised offer from Motherwell on reduced terms, but will quit if he gets a better deal elsewhere.  Dirk's agent is quoted as saying:
"There is nothing concrete at the moment for Dirk but he will have options over the next few weeks.  He's got the offer from Motherwell on the table and we very much appreciate that. It's a great offer in the club's current situation.  Motherwell have been good for him. We have to wait to see if they'll be able to get a buyer in but we can't be waiting around too long."

Meanwhile, Andy Dow is being linked with a move to Luton Town, while Tranmere Rovers and Coventry City (Eric Black's new team?) are reported to be interested in Eric Deloumeaux.
