11.40am
Made it home safely from the stag do in Blackpool, and I think
it's fair to say I got off fairly lightly. Anyway, here's a quick
update of what's been going on while I was away.
A meeting of the `Well Worth Saving group took place at Fir Park on
Thursday evening. Here is a summary of the items that were discussed.
Supporters' Trust
Martin distributed copies of the Model Rules on which the Trust is to be based and reported on
his discussions with Dave Boyle, an officer of Supporters Direct.
The areas which require amendment were discussed briefly and it was decided that a further meeting be held next week in order that the
changes be agreed before the proposals are sent to Supporters Direct for comment.
It is hoped that a public meeting will be called in the week beginning June 10
(venue TBC - both halls at the Civic Centre
are fully booked for the whole month),
at which the proposals and the Model Rules will be
published. Thereafter approval will be sought from the Registrar. The plan is that the Trust will be established by the start of the
new season.
One of the items to be agreed is the choice of a 'familiar name' for the Trust (the official name will probably be
'Motherwell Supporters'
Society Limited'). Suggestions are encouraged.
Supporters Direct will assist in the funding of the establishment of the Trust. Up to £1000 is available for costs related to
registration, printing and so on.
Fund Raising
5-a-Sides: David reported that there are already thirty teams likely to take part in the tournament and that there is still room for more.
Email David to register a team. The venue is PowerLeague (formerly known as
The Pitz) in Hamilton on Saturday 29 June with a 1pm kick-off. It is hoped
that a Former Players team will be taking part.
Football Quiz: Dave agreed to act as coordinator for the quiz. It will take place in the Cooper Suite on Thursday 6 June. Capacity is
around thirty teams of four. Teams wishing to reserve a table should contact either
Dave (0771 251 3997) or Matt (0790 422 5568).
Battle of the Bands: Joe is preparing a musical event probably in late August. Possible venues and formats were discussed. More
details will be forthcoming soon.
Finances
The 'Well Worth Saving bank account is healthy – around £5k. Some discussion took place about appropriate items of expenditure and it
was agreed that two schemes be further investigated.
As you will no doubt have heard by now, James McFadden missed
Scotland's flight home from Hong Kong not because of a "ticketing
problem", but due to the fact he slept in following a night out. The
naughty boy is quoted as saying:
"I hope it doesn't have an effect on my international career, but I'll
need to speak to the manager. I owe him and everyone else an apology. All I can do is say sorry.
The boss has shown faith by taking me
on the tour and I've let him and the rest of the squad down. It's a mistake and I am embarrassed - but not ashamed."
Don't forget about this upcoming event at Fir Park (apologies for the poor quality of the image)...
