Teletext reports that Eric Deloumeaux will quit the club if he
is forced to take a cut in wages. The £100,000 signing from Le Havre had
been asked to accept a revised contract despite only signing a three-year deal
in November. Eric will hold talks with Administrator Bryan Jackson
tomorrow, and said:
"I want to stay, but I have to see the solicitor again.
At this moment I don't know what I am getting paid. The situation is not clear,
but we will find out on Thursday. A situation like this is always
difficult, but when you are on the pitch you try to do well and be professional.
I don't know what is going to happen over the next few days so it's not been
easy for me. I think I will be here next season, but if I have to accept a
cut in wages I will leave because I still have a contract for two years.
For me I will continue to do my job very professionally because I have a
contract which I will honour, but otherwise I will go.
"I have my little baby and I am going to
get married in June. I have to care for them and live my life, too, but I
have savings. I have never had this problem before and it's distressing as
I signed for three years to stay in the Premier League. I wanted to build
something good but things have turned out to be different. But in France I could
find a club and there is also interest from England."
However, Bryan Jackson is optimistic that they
can come to a revised agreement to keep him at Fir Park, and there are even
suggestions that outside parties could help fund his wages:
"He's obviously spoken for himself. But I am still
hopeful that we will retain him. It will be difficult to retain him on his
present contract - everybody knows that - and I don't want to go into detail
discussing someone when I am to get round the table with him myself."
Jackson is also ready to set a deadline as to
when all concrete offers for the club should be made:
"Over the last few days we have been putting
together all the financial information that is required. We will give the
interested parties that information which I anticipate will probably be towards
the end of next week. I would say there are five serious parties. These
things always drag out. You send the initial information and they come back and
want more information. Then you get round the table to talk about it and
then you have to call it out by setting the date to get the offer in.
Realistically that will take around three weeks."

The Official
Coventry City site reports that Eric Black has officially been appointed as
Gary McAllister's No 2. He will start work at the club’s Ryton training
ground on Monday, May 13. The former 'Well boss is quoted as saying:
“This is a great opportunity for me to work at such a high
level with a well-known club. Coventry are a Premier League outfit and I
can’t wait for the new season to start so we can get stuck in and work towards
getting the club where it belongs. I’ve had a look at the players and we
have a very strong squad. We now have to utilise that for the club to do well -
which is something I know we can achieve.”

Ricky's report of the Chievo
game is now available.
Stevie Woods was interviewed by the press after the match, and
said:
"I thought it was a pretty good turn-out considering the
poor weather and the fact that it wasn't a competitive game as such. I'm
sure people are looking very closely at Motherwell right now and, if someone is
thinking about buying the club, I'm certain they would have been greatly
encouraged to see the amount of supporters who turned up for the game. If
they can come along this weekend for our final league game of the season, then
it will do our chances of finding a buyer no harm at all. The players were very
pleased with the fans and their support and would like to thank everyone who
turned up."
Terry Butcher added:
"I thought the team did very to come back from a goal
down against a very good side. It was anything but friendly at times and
things had to be calmed down at half-time with players getting yellow cards.
It was an awful night and Celtic played Leeds live on TV, but, having said that,
over 4000 was more than our previous home game, so I'm delighted."
8.40am
This morning's Daily
Record reports that we will name our new owner within 24 hours.
Apparently he's a local businessman with no previous connection to any football
club, and a "club insider" is quoted as saying:
"He's a man of independent wealth but not with enough
money to go splashing out on new players. The club will go back to the way
it was run before John Boyle replaced John Chapman as the major shareholder. The
club will be a selling club if the opportunity arises and look to rely on
rearing their own young players for the Premier League. In other words,
they'll do what every other provincial side in Scotland will need to do in
future and learn to live within their means."
The official
line from the club is that there are five serious bidders, and it will be
another two to three weeks before any real news of a buyer could be given.
Administrator Brian Jackson said yesterday that there had been no formal
interest in any of our players, and he was not looking to sell any of them.
Apparently the club needed 2000 people to attend last night's
game just to cover admin costs, and then the rest of the gate was being split
50/50 with Chievo.
