It's been confirmed that the 10 players made redundant have won their right to claim compensation from the club, and now the SPL will now sit down with the players' union and discuss the level of compensation they believe is due to be awarded. However, they are unlikely to receive a penny until a new buyer for the club is found. We have a week to decide if we are to appeal against the decision.

Motherwell administrator Bryan Jackson is quoted as saying:
"From the moment the club went into interim administration, we acknowledged the players made redundant had a claim against the club in administration in the same way - and with the same legal rights - as other ordinary creditors. It has never been in dispute that the players suffered a breach of contract. The decision I faced at this time last year was whether some players had to be made redundant or the club shut down with the loss of more than 80 jobs. That was the harsh reality of the situation. If Motherwell attempted to meet the redundant players' claims now - which legally it cannot do at the expense of other creditors - the club would go out of business.

"Making some players and office and ground staff redundant was an extremely difficult decision for everyone involved in the club, but that was the only realistic option. It was as difficult for other staff as it was for the players involved. I had to find a way of maintaining the club as a going concern. By going into interim administration we have been able to stabilise Motherwell and put it on a financial footing that allows the club to function.

"Scottish football has taken a real battering over the last year and the position of all clubs in terms of wages and players' contracts has changed dramatically because of the economic climate. The most realistic way for the club to be in any position to propose a settlement of claims from creditors - including players - is for the club to be sold. If I receive a realistic offer for the club, I will adjudicate on all creditors' claims with a view to hopefully being able to offer a dividend to creditors.

"In the absence of a buyer, it is likely the club will continue in interim administration for the foreseeable future."

An SPL Panel today listened to the case put forward by the 10 players seeking compensation after being made redundant last April, and unconfirmed reports suggest that Motherwell FC have lost the case. Not quite sure what the implications are of this, but I don't think compensation has to be paid until the club comes out of administration, i.e. when John Boyle resumes control or someone else buys the club. Apparently we also have the right of appeal.

Derek Adams has been hit with a 4-match following his red-card against Celtic. He will miss the game at Easter Road tomorrow but will be available again for the Aberdeen game before sitting out the final league match with Livingston and the first two games next season.

Everton manager David Moyes was in the Main Stand on Wednesday night watching James McFadden.  Moyes left as soon as Faddy was substituted.

A rather worrying rumour has just reached us...
