Ricky's report of the Celtic
game is now available.
Strathclyde Police have confirmed they will be investigating the
incident at the end of last night's match where Celtic's Ross Wallace was
allegedly kicked by a Motherwell fan who joined in the traditional end of season
pitch invasion. Wallace has since made an official complaint to the
police.
Not surprisingly, Terry Butcher's post-match comments focused
mainly on the alleged incident. He said:
"It was one of the days when we should have been celebrating a good
season and draw against Celtic. But I am disappointed if that's the case
and I've just heard that he's being interviewed by the police. I can't
condone that and it is disappointing because the fans have been tremendous
throughout our troubles and should have been celebrating staying up and being
top six. But the stupidity of one person should not take from the fact
that the rest of the crowd have been tremendous this season. We will talk
to our people and we will sort that one out but strong action has to be
taken."
Apparently if the match referee decides that the club were not
in control of it's supporters last night, we can be fined up to £10,000...
Keith Lasley remained tight-lipped on his future after last
night's game:
"It could be last home game, but I don’t want to comment on it,
there’s been a lot said this week about other players leaving the club and I
don’t want to add to that negative press. I am in discussions with Motherwell
and hopefully that will turn out good and that’s all I’ve got to say."
On the match itself, he added:
"It was anything but a typical end of season game with a few tackles
flying in and I enjoyed it, I don’t think it petered out to be an end of
season match. There was a lot of passion and a lot of good play, and the gaffer
was reasonably pleased with the way we played."
Martyn Corrigan also spoke to the press after the game, and said:
"It was quite a good game and I enjoyed it, Celtic came here with quite
a different team and both sides tried to create as many chances as possible and
it was very enjoyable to play in. You know that Celtic has a lot of good
players no matter what team they play daresay that team could finish top of the
League if t had played all season. They have that depth to the team you just
have to prepare yourself for whatever team they are going to put out. That
was our first point in the top six, that’s why we were up for the game as we
wanted to get at least a point in the top six."
The Under-21s lost their final match of the season 5-4 to
Aberdeen at Fir Park this afternoon, in a match which saw David Cowan finally
return to action following last season's leg break. Our goalscorers were
Wright (2), Russell and Coakley, and the team was:
Reid, Keogh (Cowan), M. Quinn, MacDonald, Bollan, Higgins, Wright, Maguire, Coakley (McStay), Fitzpatrick (Cameron), Russell.
Subs not used: Calder and Soutar
