Well what can I say about the new strips?

The away kit is acceptable, though hardly any different to this season's effort.  As for the home top, it has got to be one of the worst Motherwell strips I have ever seen and goodness only knows who came up with the design.  Since when has a 'Well home top had a white band across the chest?  The whole things looks as though it has been put together simply to give maximum exposure to our new sponsor's logo, and while I appreciate Zoom are pumping a fair amount of money into the club (£70k per season for 3 years), carving up the jersey like this is nothing less than sacrilege!

Anyway, John Boyle, whose brother Hugh founded Zoom Airlines, launched the new kits by saying:
"This is a tremendous boost for the club.  It was important that we managed to secure a long-term sponsor. I'm sure it will be a great partnership."

Hugh Boyle added:
"This is a great opportunity for Zoom Airlines.  I'm delighted to see the airline supporting the club John and I grew up with and, when he suggested that Zoom get involved, we didn't have any hesitation."

TribalFootball.com are reporting that Scott McDonald has become the first of the out of contract players to sign a new deal.  The Australia Under-21 International has agreed a two-year contract and is quoted as saying:
"I'm delighted to be putting down roots here at Motherwell.  I actually had bigger offers, but after talking with my agents, Lou Sticca and Dave McPherson, and also my Dad, I'm convinced this is the best place for me to develop my game.

"It's been a great second-half of the season for me. Basically, since I joined Lou Sticca's stable, I've been able to get some stability into my career and this contract is evidence of that. I'm now achieving what I've been trying to do since I joined Southampton a couple of years ago - playing regular first team football at a strong club.  It's been great working for the gaffer and I aim to get a strong preseason under my belt so I can really give next season my absolute best."

Perhaps it's just as well we didn't qualify for Europe.  Today's Daily Record reports that we would have been banned by UEFA from entering European competition next season as we did not meet their March 31 deadline for being out of administration.

The Under-21s lost 2-1 to their Dundee Utd counterparts at Fir Park today, with Scott McDonald on target for the Steelmen.
Team: Corr, Keogh, Bollan, MacDonald, Kinniburgh (Neville), Higgins, Wright, Connolly (Barkey), McDonald (Scott), Fitzpatrick, Russell.
Subs not used: Reid, M. Quinn.
