Speaking after yesterday's debacle at Rugby Park, Eric Black
said:
"I thought they probably deserved to win the game. It's alright
having possession and you can keep the ball all day but if you don't score it
doesn't matter. I'm very disappointed by the result. I thought the first
goal was going to be the decider and we started reasonably brightly creating one
or two chances. I think if we could have scored at that point we could
have then gone on to win the game. But after we lost the goal we lost a
bit of belief and we never created many chances in the second half. I
think we need a presence up front in attack because obviously we'd like to
create and score more chances. The loss of David Kelly hasn't helped us
but it gives other players an opportunity."
A couple of snippets from today's Sunday Mail. Apparently
Eric Black plans to ask his old friend Gerard Houillier for advice on how to
make him a better boss. Black knows the Liverpool manager well from his
playing days with Metz and is planning a fact-finding visit to Anfield once
Houillier has fully recovered from his heart operation.
Also, Stevie Hammell believes that being branded a racist last
year has made him a stronger player. Hammell was charged with racial abuse
following an incident with St Johnstone's Momo Sylla last December, and he said:
"It did affect me for a while. I found it put more pressure on me
going into games wondering what the fans were thinking. I didn't want
people to think I was a racist but I suppose it helped because now I'm stronger
mentally."
