Teletext is reporting that Blair Sturrock could be Eric Black's first signing at Fir Park.  The 20-year-old striker has just been released by Dundee United and has joined father Paul on trial at English Third Division side Plymouth Argyle.  Black is understood to be a long-time admirer of the forward and could make a move for him.

Stevie Nicholas says he is out to impress new manager Eric Black as his contract runs out at the end of the season:
"The arrival of a new manager always means a fresh start for everyone at the club, and Eric has told us all exactly that.  He has been very up front with us and I'm sure all the lads will be trying to impress him in training and against Dundee tomorrow if they are selected to play at Dens Park.  From my point of view it's important I give a good account of myself because I want to be involved in as many first-team matches as possible. And I'm also playing for a new contract.  I didn't speak to Billy Davies about my situation when he was here and for the moment it's just a case of playing as well as I can and working very hard every day on the training ground.  And if a new deal comes my way then I would be delighted. But I know I am just one of many players at Motherwell who will be bursting a gut over the coming weeks and months.  It's never a nice situation when your gaffer leaves the club and there is uncertainty around the place for a few weeks. But the fact that I have been through the same thing at Stirling when Kevin Drinkell was sacked has helped.  All you can do is try to focus on your football and I've been involved in our last four matches. Starting against Celtic was a big boost for me and I thought we were very unlucky not to take something from the game."

"We always have very difficult games against Dundee and when they are on form they are a very difficult team to play against.  You never know what to expect from them.  Sometimes they are very good and on other occasions they struggle a little, but I'm sure they will be determined to win against us.  We could be doing with going up there and getting three points to give Eric Black and Terry Butcher a winning start to their careers here."
