The club held it's weekly press conference at Fir Park
yesterday, and Stuart Elliott was asked about the new managerial regime:
"It's been brilliant. We have all been very relaxed and there is a real
confidence about the place. We were very unlucky against Celtic and that has
added to the confidence. It was a touch frustrating not to be able to play
against Dundee, but it was maybe a blessing in disguise as all the results went
for us. Hopefully we can use that game in hand to good effect. We have
been doing a lot of good work on possession, it has been very enjoyable and both
Terry and Eric do a great deal of coaching".
"It's not been difficult at all with the different
managers, we are professional players and we know how to adjust. As for my own
form I am reasonably happy with it but I can improve my all round game. On the
positive side I am still scoring goals and have a target I have set myself this
season.
"Adapting to play centre-forward has been interesting as I am naturally a
winger. However, I am happy to play any where as it is great just to be in the
starting eleven. I am just enjoying the new challenge, the style is a bit
different now and I really hope the new manager will take us forward. It will be
a tough game against Dundee United, they are well organised and hard to break
down but we are looking forward to it".
Eric Black was asked about the game at Dundee being called off:
"You have to look at the positive sides and it has been beneficial
having more time to work with the players. I have been very impressed with their
application, attitude and with their general response to Terry Butcher and
myself.
"There has also been a good response from the fans from whom I have
received a lot of mail wishing us all the best. It will be a difficult game at
Dundee United and we will look to the fitness of Keith Lasley and Scott Leitch
who have niggling injuries. Scott has been pivotal in his role, helping the
youngsters and playing well himself. We will just have to wait and see if he
will make it".
Looking forward to tomorrow's game at Tannadice, Eric Black
believes that Dundee United manager Alex Smith can act as his inspiration:
"It would be wonderful to do what he did. All credit to Alex for what he
achieved in difficult circumstances and saving them from relegation.
That's obviously got to be our first target - to get out of the precarious
position that we're in. The main thing is to get out of the relegation
zone - we're in a difficult position and that's the only target we've set
ourselves at the moment. I've got that much respect for Alex - I've known
him for an awful lot of years now, more than I care to remember. I've got
nothing but respect for him as an individual and as a coach and I've learned a
lot from him. When I was with the Under-19s we went to Mexico and Alex
Smith came on that trip and we were away for about a month. He was like a
father figure at that point and obviously has a great knowledge of the
game."
Reports suggest that Motherwell are interested in Inverness
Caledonian Thistle striker Dennis Wyness. The former Aberdeen player is
also believed to be attracting attention from Man City.
Motherwell won 2-0 against Rangers in the SPL Youth League
yesterday, in the first competitive fixture at Rangers' new Auchenhowie training
ground.
