Yesterday's result: Dundee United 1, Motherwell 0.

Poor stuff at Tannadice yesterday.  In many ways it was reminiscent of the Falkirk game a couple of weeks ago, in that we just never got going, but were seemingly destined to hold on for a 0-0 draw until being outdone by a set piece near the end.  We allowed the home side to close us down in midfield and stop us playing, while we got little change from the high balls we continually lumped towards their giant central defenders.  The winning goal came 12 minutes from time, when Dods rose to head home an inswinging corner.  At the other end, we threatened a couple of times on the break at the start of the second half, but on the whole can have few complaints at the result.  Just like at Falkirk, too many of our supposed "top" players simply didn't produce the goods yesterday.

Team (4-3-3): Graeme Smith, Quinn, Craigan, Reynolds, Paterson, McGarry (O'Donnell 88), Hughes, Lasley, Clarkson (Grabban 84), Porter, McCormack (Darren Smith 84).
Subs not used: Meldrum, Mensing, Fitzpatrick, Kinniburgh.

Booked: Lasley.

Attendance: 6,286.

Mark McGhee's post-match comments were as follows:
"To lose a goal from a set-piece is in a sense no surprise, because it is our Achilles heel.  We don't defend them well enough - and when teams have set-pieces against us, it is always a worry.  We should still have the ability to defend a corner - even if you do have to take your chances."

Martyn Corrigan has been allowed to join Division 1 side Dundee on a month's loan in an attempt to improve his fitness.
