At today's press conference, Pat Nevin was asked about the
club's search for a new manager:
"There has been a good number of applications for the job. No-one
at this point of time has been offered the job. At the present time we are a wee
distance away from an appointment being made. We are looking at people on our
list and chipping away at it. We have around 20 names who are possibles but hope
to have a short list by Monday of next week."
"With us having three games this week it has not been easy to pursue the
matter as much as we would like. We would rather do it sooner than later. A
short list will be drawn up and given to John Boyle and the Board."
When asked if Paul Sturrock and Ian McCall would be on the
shortlist, he replied:
"No-one who has applied has asked that I should mention their name. It
would be completely out of order to mention anyone since if they are at present
working it could cause problems. There are managers interested in the position
who are at other clubs at the present time. No other clubs have been approached
since our short list is not to hand."
When asked about the issue of compensation, Pat added:
"If the Board felt the person was right then we would be prepared to
pay. A lot of factors would then come into the equation.
"Obviously we cannot afford the very top level but that
does not mean that we go for someone cheap – this is an important job – but
you have to rule out certain names at the top of the tree. We pay a very good
salary."
The qualities Pat is looking for from the new manager are "someone
with good ideas, someone who wants to get into management for the right reasons,
extremely dedicated – someone mad keen."
John Philliben and Mio Krivokapic are still candidates.
Pat says he will have "a good say" on the appointment but the entire
board will make the final decision. John Boyle has not suggested anyone so
far, but once the shortlist is in place he will be "very keen" to be
involved."
Pat went on to say that he had not spoken to Billy Davies this
week, but hoped to do so in the near future.
Mio Krivokapic revealed that we have no injury worries should
have a full squad to pick from for the St Johnstone game. When asked
(again) if he was interested in the job, Mio replied:
"We have a job to do here and for him the best part of the job is
coaching the players. In my country coach is a coach but in this country the
manager does a lot of things. I am no fan of that. I like to take responsibility
of players and training and organise things here you can see everything is
organised Commercial Managers, Secretaries for this and that."
John Philliben added:
"As I said during the week obviously, I’ve got to be interested since
I have a wife and family and it is one of those things where if you are given a
chance then you would go ahead and try for it but it will come down to the Board
who will decide.
"With Mio saying that he was more comfortable on the coaching side could
I see myself working together with Mio doing the coaching with me doing the
press, administration etc."
Martyn Corrigan was also at the press conference, and he said:
"If Mio and Softy took over the job everybody would be happy there would
still be a good atmosphere at the club even although Billy has left. Billy was a
good manager and good in the dressing room as well.
"You could say it was our fault for Billy losing his job
since we were not performing on the park and everybody is sad and we take
responsibility for that. It’s just unfortunate that Billy took the rap."
Full details of the press conference are available from the Official
MFC Site.

Karl Ready wants to see Motherwell appoint a new manager as soon
as possible. Speaking after the 2-1 defeat by Airdrie on Tuesday night, he said:
"What the club needs right now is some stability. When a manager
leaves for, whatever reason, there is always an initial reaction from the
players. That was evident at the weekend when we beat Hearts to pick up a
first three points this season. I understand it takes time to find a new
manager and it is a very important decision which the club have got to
make. You want to get the right person in, and the man that will turn
things around at the club, and hopefully that is not too far away. We want
to try and move up the Premier League table as quickly as possible, and the
players are all keen to show the new boss what we can do."
When asked about Keith Lasley's late own-goal which handed Airdrie victory,
he said:
"That was a real sickener for us. We never played as well as we know we
can, and it is very disappointing to be knocked pout of the cup. However,
I am sure everyone will agree that our performances in the league are the most
important just now. We are sitting second bottom, and while it is an
improvement on a couple of weeks ago, we want to get to the mid table mark as
soon as possible to take the pressure off."
Ricky's report of the Airdrie
game is now available.
