Pat Nevin Interview - Part 2 (read Part 1 here) Q11: Will the "hoop" be returning to the home strip next season? Last year Hearts had a selection of tops on their official website and asked fans to vote for their personal favourite. This proved highly successful - a possibility for Motherwell perhaps? A: I have not seen any designs yet. I will pass on to everyone that there is a positive drive for the hoop with a good number of the fans. Q12: The Intertoto Cup. Would Motherwell ever consider entry into this competition, given how successful it has been for clubs in England? A: Not at the moment. We cannot afford a big enough squad to see us through that length of season. It is too long as it is and resultant long term injuries could be catastrophic for our season. Q13: The Press. How much does it anger you when quotes are twisted and do you feel public apologies should be made (i.e. the Goram affair – what became of that?) Are there any pressmen/women banned from Fir Park? A: I do think that fans are not daft. And after reading some of the comments on website Message Boards recently I think they are pretty sussed on where some of the press are coming from. But nobody is banned and I do not get angry with them. They are doing their jobs, difficult jobs sometimes under demanding editors, and even though we sometimes feel cruelly misrepresented it is simply the nature of the beast and I wouldn't want to deny them free speech. At the moment I prefer doing TV and Radio. I think the fans get a very true flavour of the story from these outlets. Q14: Your time at Chelsea – what appealed to you to move there when there was other interest in you? A: Just fancied a game of football. I didn't think I was good enough but I thought I would give it a go for a while. Q15: Were you disappointed not to play for either of the Old Firm? A: No. The grief that my wife and children would receive if I was part of it would not have been worth it in my book. Q16: The Matchday programme. It has received a whole bundle of criticism in recent years, mainly relating to a lack of colour photos and detail. Most other clubs in the SPL have a much better programme – will the Fir Park version be improved in time to come? A: Karen and her staff are doing the best they can with the limited resources, but she tells me she is always happy to take ideas on this Q17: Alisdair Barron always comes in for a fair bit of criticism from Motherwell supporters. Are you pleased with the job he is doing? A: Alisdair works very hard for this club. I know some people do not see eye to eye with him on occasion. But then you could say that about me, JB or anyone. Q18: What was your reaction when Billy told you that your playing contract was not going to be renewed? Did you consider leaving Motherwell to continue your playing career elsewhere? A: Saddened, because I felt I still had something to offer, but he was the manager so I respected his decision. I had an offer at another top club but decided I had promised at least 3 years to the Well and I didn't want to break that promise. So the career ended. No bitterness though, it was long and great fun while it lasted. Q19: Motherwell v Hearts – the game which was abandoned. Did the Hearts chairman enter the referee’s office at half-time? .A: I didn't actually see him go in. But lots of people said they did. Actually I didn't really mind that much, it was a lottery after all. Q20: What is your view on sectarianism in the Scottish game, and how important is it for a "family" club like Motherwell to retain a non-sectarian image? Do you believe that bigoted and racist chants have been completely eradicated from the Fir Park stands? A: It sickens me and I suppose it is the biggest plus point of living in the South east of Scotland, that I don't have to listen to all that crap very often. A prsons religion has no effect on me and hopefully no effect on the club. Any bigotry here we try to stamp out.
