We won 3-2 at McDiarmid Park this afternoon!  If truth be told, we didn't play at all well and were very fortunate to come away with the three points.  In fact, there were times during the game (early in the 1st half and midway through the 2nd) when we were playing some of the worst football I have seen from a 'Well side in recent years, but when you score a completely undeserved last-minute winner then I suppose it makes it all the sweeter!

The management team made only one change to the team from the Airdrie game, with Kevin Twaddle replacing Stevie Nicholas on the right wing.  However, Twads was involved in a horror clash early on with Saints' goalkeeper Alan Main which saw both players stretchered off (Twaddle with severe bruising and Main with a broken leg), with Nicholas coming off the bench to take his place.  By this time we were already a goal down, when poor defending allowed Connolly to slot the ball home from close range.  However, we equalised in first half injury time completely against the run of play when Stevie Nic controlled the ball on his knee and sent a superb volley past Saints' stand-in 'keeper.

Out best period of play came at the start of the second half, and when Stuart Elliott missed a complete sitter many 'Well fans feared it might prove to be a turning point in the game.  Indeed, the home side took the lead again after 55 mins and went on to control the match.  A third St Johnstone goal at this point would have killed the game, but they passed up several good chances and Motherwell hung on in there.  We got our reward after 78 mins when Elliott made it 2-2 from a tight angle, and unbelievably that man Nicholas grabbed a sensational winner in the last minute when he tapped in from close range after Elliott's initial shot had been parried.

The win, however undeserved it might have been, opens up a nice little 6 point gap between St Johnstone and ourselves. Hopefully the introduction of a new manager before the Celtic game should give the whole club a boost and should see us climb up the table.  Come on ye 'Well!

Ricky has asked me to point out that his match report of the St Johnstone game might be delayed somewhat, as he, Peter Elder, Matt Johnstone, Keith Brown and A.N. Other are off to Manachester's Granada Studios tonight for the recording of ITV Digital's "Do I Not Know That", a football quiz programme.  Best of luck to the 'Well team!
