'Well chairman John Boyle has confirmed the sale of James McFadden to Everton:
"The club deeply regrets having to sell such an outstanding player as James at this stage in the new season. However, Everton made an offer the club simply could not refuse. The directors and the manager Terry Butcher did everything possible to keep James at Fir Park but we could not reject Everton's final offer. We wish James well. It is a great opportunity for the player and we hope our fans understand that it was impossible to stop him going to an English Premiership team willing to match the valuation we put on him."

Motherwell administrator Bryan Jackson:
"The club deeply regrets having to sell such an outstanding player as James at this stage in the new season. However, Everton made an offer the club simply could not refuse. The directors and the manager Terry Butcher did everything possible to keep James at Fir Park but we could not reject Everton's final offer. We wish James well. It is a great opportunity for the player and we hope our fans understand that it was impossible to stop him going to an English Premiership team willing to match the valuation we put on him.

"We regret losing James but he is a great player and great guy. This also shows that Motherwell has done a tremendous job in developing young players who can graduate to the Scottish Premier League and English Premiership quite early in their careers. Any parent whose son is thinking of a career in football could not start off at a better place."

It looks as though we have lost out in our bid to keep hold of James McFadden. Both the Official Everton site and BBC Sport are reporting that Everton have had a bid accepted by Motherwell, believed to be £1.25m. McFadden is understood to be travelling to Goodison Park for a medical after requesting a transfer this morning.

Apparently Everton's offer includes further payments if McFadden proves to be a success in the Premiership.

Best of luck Faddy!

One other snippet of news. The club are set to appeal against the red card show to Stephen Pearson against Partick Thistle on Saturday. Pearo was dismissed for allegedly elbowing Thistle's David Lilley, even though the incident was missed by everyone in the ground and the rest of the players.

9am

Not surprisingly, there was a flurry of activity surrounding James McFadden as last night's transfer deadline approached. Firstly, the Herald reports that Celtic failed in a ridiculous attempt to take Faddy on loan for the rest of the season! Apparently the deal would have involved Motherwell receiving £200,000 with Celtic having the option of signing McFadden for real next summer if he impressed at Parkhead. Not surprisingly, it was flatly rejected by Motherwell, and Faddy's agent was quoted as saying:
"There was a conversation between the clubs along those lines but it was a complete non-starter and never got as far as James or myself being involved,"

Then the Scotsman reported that we had turned down a £1.25m offer from Everton for McFadden, as we are apparently holding out for £1.5m. It is unclear if Everton could come back in for Faddy with an improved offer as the English deadline is not until 5pm today, however it is believed all transfers involving Scottish clubs had to be completed by midnight last night.

It seems as though Martyn Corrigan has turned down a new contract until the uncertainty over the club's future is resolved. "Zinadine" is quoted as saying:
"We are discussing a deal at the moment. I like it at Motherwell but we'll have to wait and see. It would be nice for the club to come out of administration. I hope it happens soon because it's something you need to think about. Hopefully that will happen sometime this season."

And on Dundee Utd's £200,000 bid for him last week, Corrigan added:
"What happens outside the club is none of my business. If they could have sorted something out, they would have told me. It's nice when other teams see that you are doing well but I'm happy where I am."
