Tonight's result: Queen's Park 0, Motherwell 3 (CIS Cup 3rd Round).

Motherwell progressed to the Quarter Finals of the CIS Cup with a 3-0 win at over Queen's Park at Hampden tonight, courtesy of a Richie Foran hat trick.  The first half was far from convincing, with the amateur side missing an absolute sitter early on and then having a shot cleared off the line from the resulting corner kick.  The miss was to prove costly as Motherwell took the lead shortly afterwards when Foran slotted home from Kerr's through pass.

The second half was shootie in, with Foran grabbing his second when he turned the ball over the line from close range after his initial header had rebounded off the crossbar.  His completed his hat trick from the penalty spot after McDonald had been brought down in the box.  We created numerous other decent chances in the second 45 mins and hit the woodwork on a couple of occasions, but the game fizzled out somewhat when Foran and McDonald were replaced by Elliott and McCormack respectively.

The draw for the next round is on Saturday evening.

Team (3-5-2): Meldrum, Craigan, Donnelly, Reynolds, Quinn, McGarry, Kerr, Lasley (McBride 78), Paterson, Foran (Elliott 70), McDonald (McCormack 76).

Motherwell scorer: Foran (24, 47, 54 pen).

Booked: Donnelly, Elliott.

Attendance: 2,408.

Brian McLean is out until at least Christmas after suffering medial ligament damage to his knee against Hearts on Saturday, which was his first start of the season after returning from a previous injury!

Maurice Malpas is reported as "actively seeking out-of-contract defenders", with one tabloid linking us with former Rangers player Marvin Andrews.

Ricky's report of the Hearts game is now available.

DEFINITELY time for a new opinion poll

How much longer should we give Maurice Malpas?
