Yesterday's result: Dundee United 1, Motherwell 1.

Wasn't at Tannadice yesterday, and to be honest I'm quite glad as it sounded like an awful game.  We took the lead through Calum Elliot in the second half, only for United to equalise almost immediately afterwards.  The home side apparently also had a decent penalty shout turned down late on, so perhaps we were slightly fortunate to escape with a point.

Although it's only the second time we have avoided defeat so far in this SPL campaign, the result doesn't really do us any favours as both Dunfermline and Falkirk won yesterday to leave us four points adrift at the bottom of the league.  Our next two matches, at home to Kilmarnock and Dunfermline, look like they could make or break our season, and with an away Old Firm double header to follow, they could also determine if Maurice Malpas has a future at the club.

Anyway, you can read Ricky's report of the game here.

Maurice Malpas' post-match comments were as follows:
"It was a poor performance but we got a point and that was the most important thing. If we keep picking up points I'd take poor shows every week.  A draw was probably a fair result because it was a fairly uneventful game. There wasn't much good football on show and I doubt the fans would have thought it was a thriller.  Excitement is not what it's about when you're down at the bottom end of the table, points are all that matter.  It was disappointing to lose a goal so soon after scoring. We were scrappy defensively but credit to their boy because it was a good header."

We face an away tie at Kilmarnock in the quarter-finals of the CIS Cup, with the match to be played on November 7th or 8th.

DEFINITELY time for a new opinion poll

How much longer should we give Maurice Malpas?
