Club’s Beginnings
On 17 May 1886, two clubs from a Motherwell factory (Glencairn F.C. and Alpha F.C.) join together and form Motherwell Football Club. In the early years, they used the stadium of Alpha F.C., then they were forced to leave. In 1893 at the annual meeting, it was decided that the club would go professional and play in the Second Division, ten years later they managed to move up to the First Division. The color of the club at the beginning was mainly blue, but in 1912 they changed to the ones they use today. In the last five seasons, the club has qualified for international competition in four.
