Administrator Denies New Signings

Contrary to yesterday’s reports, Motherwell administrator Bryan Jackson says the club are still in no position to sign new players:
“There is no question of Motherwell signing new players in the foreseeable future unless players leave to make way for them, and that is most certainly not on the agenda.  Terry Butcher, the board and myself have great faith in the playing squad as it stands.

“If there is a significant change in fortunes for the club in relation to season ticket sales or television revenues, then we may be in a position to change our outlook. We cannot sign new players when others have lost their jobs or have had to take pay cuts to help ensure the survival of the club.

“We have one player on the transfer list who could be replaced if sold but that is as far as it goes. We cannot increase either the squad size or the wage bill at Motherwell. It is as simple as that.”

Meanwhile, a club spokesman has denied rumours that a deadline for bids has been set for 5pm today.  He said:
“The situation hasn’t changed greatly and rumours  that we had set a deadline of Friday for bids are completely untrue.  Certainly there will come a time when some sort of closing date will have to be set, but we aren’t at that stage yet.  We are not expecting much to happen until the end of the month – the ball is still in the court of potential bidders.  There are still a few things to be ironed out between bidders and the administrator, but it’s all running along nicely.”

The club are set to announce a new season ticket drive next week.  The latest rumour I heard was that East Stand season tickets will rise by £20.00.
