At long last, Stephen Pearson’s transfer to Celtic has been completed for a fee reportedly in the region of £350,000. The 21-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half year contract supposedly worth 9 grand a week with the Premier League leaders. ‘Well chairman Bill Dickie is quoted on the Official Site as saying:
“However, after extensive discussions with Terry Butcher it became clear he did not have any confidence in Stephen Pearson being ready and willing to meet the challenges that will lie ahead at Fir Park until the end of the season. In view of that it was agreed it was in the best interests of Motherwell to sell the player to Celtic.”
Well Pearo, I’d really like to say that I wished you well with your new club, but unfortunately I think most ‘Well fans will remember the pathetic lack of commitment and effort you showed in the last two months rather than the (occasional) excellent performances you produced earlier in your ‘Well career, most notably in the Cup Semi at Hampden last April. Hope you enjoy warming the Parkhead bench.
The Under-21s beat their Dundee counterparts 1-0 at Fir Park this afternoon thanks to a Kenny Wright goal after 4 mins. New signing Scott McDonald played for the full 90 mins.
The BBC are reporting that Dundee United’s Andy McLaren will face no punishment despite clearly spitting in the direction of the ‘Well fans in the East Stand towards the end of Saturday’s match.
