10.30pm Ricky’s report of the Hearts game is now available. Terry Butcher’s post-match comments were as follows: “I was delighted to get away with it because that is exactly what we did. I would have taken a point before this game even kicked off because the boys have worked so hard recently and played much better against Dundee United and Rangers and took nothing from those games. We just did not get going at all in the first half and I was delighted to go into half-time only 1-0 down as we were very, very poor. Hearts were up for it and they would have been disappointed that they did not score more goals. We knew at half-time that we had to show more spirit, fight and determination in the second half and we managed to get the equaliser and even thought they we might be able to win the game but that would have been very fortunate.” Meanwhile, Stevie Hammell admits the Fir Park pitch is so bad that he and his team mates prefer playing away from home! He said: “To be honest, the boys here hate playing on the pitch. It’s so poor that you can’t even play one simple pass without the ball bobbling and bouncing. Sometimes it’s good to get away to other grounds just to play on a different pitch – we don’t relish playing on ours at all but I’m sure it will be better next season. We are a team who like to pass the ball a lot and you can’t really do that so we have to change our game plan quite a lot. It’s a disadvantage for us but in saying that I’m sure other teams don’t look forward to coming to Fir Park.” On last night’s game, he added: “It’s probably the worst we’ve played in a long time and it’s one of the best points we will get this season. We were terrible in the first half and just didn’t get going at all so the gaffer had a few words to say to us at half-time. We played a lot better in the second half and maybe could have nicked it at the end but we were definitely happy with the point. We’re still confident that we can hold onto the top six place but I think we need another win to clinch it.” Cast your vote in our TWO new opinion polls: Should Bryan Jackson be offered a job in some capacity by MFC once the club is out of administration? and Who should captain the side while Scott Leitch is injured? |
